The covered entity (CE), Howard Health Systems dba Howard Memorial Hospital, reported that it experienced a cyberattack that compromised the protected health information (PHI) of 17,703 individuals. The PHI involved included names, dates of birth, clinical or treatment information, medical provider names, medical record numbers, and patient account numbers. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, and the media. In response to the breach the CE implemented additional administrative and technical safeguards to better protect sensitive data.
